Anne Rice and her new books on Christ's life

Some time ago I was at the bookstore on the shelves marked "R". Of course Anne Rice is one of the most prominent names there. But, right next to the eight-thousand books about Lestat and other vampires stood her newest novel: Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt. And I thought to myself, how ironic, that a writer who delved on the gothic-ly dark would write or would fictionalize or would factionalize the life of Jesus. I was close to buying the book, but I didn't. I didn't because I wanted to compare her old stuff with this one, and I realized that she has written too many books on vampires for me to read before reading Out of Egypt, still it keeps me intriged as to how she had done it. It intrigues me what has she taken out of the Bible and other materials to make this novel, and how the history, or what we think is history, is either retold and/or reinvented. I really do wonder. I really am curious. I shall not resist too long. It should, hopefully, be a delight to read.

I wrote a review of Christ the Lord which you might read here.

I sustained a brief conversation with Ms. Rice and she said she loved it.

You do know she came out as a born-again christian last year, right?

She even got the cover of Christian Living Magazine.

But she just announced she will be releasing one last Lestat Novel, with a christian twist, can you say irony?

Dude, you're kidding, right? I read most of the Vampire Chronicles when I was 15 years old (thanks, Brad Pitt!) and now that I know better, I can tell they're crap, with Memmoch the Devil being the worst thing this side of a bad Harry Potter fanfic.

First books were ok, but once the vamps turn into whiny emo bitches, the fun stops, and the half-hearted stabs at gay porn are too little too late.

That said, if Anne Rice's Jesus doesn't end up shagging his 12 apostles, I'll be sorely disappointed. Which, of course, is par the course with Anne Rice.
